I won this fancy new Knight Rider GPS unit from a local radio station (WRIF)!!!
Now, I've won some things from the radio or other contests before, but this beats all! I love Knight Rider, and I've been thinking about getting a GPS unit, so this is perfect!
The unit seems to be made pretty sturdy. It's has some sort of cast metal casing. But it is made in China. You can tell from the manual...it's full of "Engrish". And I don't think there is a way to update the maps and stuff. The GPS software is Polstar. Their site looks nice, but there's not a lot of information there. Also, getting the GPS software updated and installed from the included CD was a pain. The manual steps you through half of the setup, but then just kind of leaves you hanging.
It does have some really good features. In addition to the GPS software, it also has a photo viewer, video player, mp3 player and is Bluetooth compatible with my cell phone. Although they are good extras, I don't see me flipping through photos while driving. But if I were on vacation or maybe camping, having a video or mp3 player would be nice to help pass the time.
It's built on Windows CE, so, in my opinion, that's a plus. Kinda gives more room for updatability or maybe even replacing the GPS software with a more upgradeable or friendly one. I don't know if that's possible yet, but I would think it is.
Like I said, I love Knight Rider! I have seen every episode of the original series and have the complete DVD set! So, I am very excited about this gadget! I'm not happy with the new series to be honest. I don't think they are staying true to the original. The car is butt-ugly and not futuristic looking at all! But that's another post...
Here are some more pictures of the box and unit itself:
This one is of the box and the GPS unit. It's obviously a NBC promo item.
Another picture of both, this with the GPS powering up. The custom start screen is pretty cool.
The front of the box.
The side of the box...just in case you don't know when it's on TV or what channel it's on.
The back of the box. Faster.Stronger.Smarter....is that K.I.T.T. or the GPS???
